Counselling

People enter Counselling for many different reasons.  Ultimately something does not feel right. You may feel more tired than usual, irritable, having trouble sleeping, withdrawing from others, feeling misunderstood, worrying about an important decision, feeling fearful of the future or simply confused about life, whatever the reason Counselling can help.

Counselling gives a person the opportunity to talk in a private and confidential setting about any of their concerns.  Talking to a Counsellor, someone trained to listen is different from talking to family and friends. We often try to protect our family and friends from some of our deepest thoughts and feelings in fear we may worry them or upset them in some way.  Those barriers are removed when talking to a Counsellor.

As a Counsellor I have your best interests at heart.  I am not here to judge or criticise you in any way. We work together to discover the best outcomes for you.

Over my years of Counselling I’ve discovered just because one approach may work well for one client this does not mean it will work for the next. I am comfortable to integrate different theoretical approaches to find the best fit for your particular needs.

“The Nuts and Bolts”

Counselling needs to be undertaken on a voluntary basis.  You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.  You can drag someone to counselling but you can’t make them talk.

All counselling sessions are confidential. This will be discussed at our first meeting and I’m happy to answer any questions you may have.

  • Counselling is carried out on a one to one basis.

  • The sessions are directed by you.  You are in control of what you say and what you choose not to say.

  • Each session lasts up to fifty minutes.  This may feel like a long time to some people however you may be surprised at how quickly the time passes.

  • Frequency of sessions is usually weekly or fortnightly however, I can be flexible and they do not need to be on the same day and time each week.

  • All sessions offered are either online via Teams, Zoom, Google Meet or on the telephone.  The session can be via Whatsapp on video if that is something that suits you.

I no longer offer face to face appointments.  I did have twenty happy years of meeting people in the flesh.  The pandemic changed my way of working as it did for many others. Much to my surprise I really enjoy working remotely and believe it can be as beneficial as face to face, alongside the benefits of no travel time and saved costs to people wishing to access counselling.  I now get to work with people not only all over the country but all over the world!!
